Hemp-Based CBD:
The Basics

What is CBD?

CBD = Cannabidiol

CBD is derived from hemp plants (which are different from marijuana plants). CBD is completely legal and does not provide any psychoactive effects; in other words, it won't get you high!  CBD is known to provide relaxing effects for the mind and body in a safe, effective, and natural way.

Other Cannabinoids

DELTA 8

Delta 8 is different from other hemp-based cannabinoids because it does provide a euphoric effect similar to THC.  Although, most people say the feeling is not as intense as regular THC. If THC makes you feel uncomfortable but CBD doesn't seem to cut it, we recommend trying D8 and finding the right dose.

CBN

CBN is best known for its calming, sleep-inducing effects, therefore, it is usually used for nighttime routines. If you’re seeking melatonin alternatives, CBN will be your new bedtime buddy, so keep some on your nightstand! We’ve also prepared a detailed blog about the differences between CBG and CBN to eliminate confusion completely.

CBG

CBG is non-intoxicating and won't get you high (just like CBD).  CBG is great for when your mind is racing and you need to slow down.  We love using CBG when we feel overwhelmed–even just a small dose can help you untangle those stressful thoughts.

Ways to Take CBD

Different delivery methods of top-shelf hemp products can produce different effects, and it all depends on your body which way works best.
Graph of time (x axis) vs strength of effects (y axis) Topicals have the lowest strength of effects and are not as long lasting. Sublingual tinctures and inhalation have a similar initial spike, but leave the body faster than edibles, which have a longer build up period to the peak and slowly leave the body. Edibles are the most long lasting.

SMOKABLES

Smokables like flower, vape carts, or pre-rolls are the fastest way to feel the effects.  The one drawback is dosing—it can be hard to get the same exact dose every time.

SUBLINGUALS

Sublingual tinctures (absorption into the bloodstream via under the tongue) are the 2nd fastest way to feel the effects.  Dosing is exact and extremely customizable.
ABSORB IT

EDIBLES

Edibles are the easiest & most discrete way to enjoy.  Dosing is exact, but it generally takes a bit longer to feel the effects. This includes things you eat, like gummies or honey.

TOPICALS

For localized relief, topicals provide just what you're looking for.  Simply rub the balm in to your skin and feel your muscles relax.  Great for post-workout soreness!

How to Choose Top-Quality CBD Products

What do I look for when shopping for Hemp & CBD products?

Buying CBD shouldn’t be like getting your groceries; it’s a process that requires some research & work from your end. Our blog post below will give you more detail on what things to look for.

Does the product have a COA from a 3rd party lab?

COAs identify unsafe contaminants or heavy metals and also confirm potency and reliability. When it comes from a 3rd party, you can ensure the numbers haven’t been altered.
See our lab results here

Do the COAs match the specs outlined on the label?

It is common for companies to put out products that actually have far fewer cannabinoids and in lower concentrations than advertised on their labels.

South Tip's Story
South Tip's Team

Who is the manufacturer? Are they following food safety guidelines?

CBD products that are ingested must adhere to food safety regulations to ensure they are safe for consumption.

"White Labeling" (purchasing pre-made products and adding your own branding) is a common practice in the CBD industry, and unfortunately, it makes it difficult for consumers to trace the quality of the original manufacturer. However, it is required to put the name and address of the manufacturer on the label.
We recommend finding the manufacturer and looking up their credentials prior to purchasing.

South Tip's manufacturing facility is 100% compliant with all food safety laws and we have high standards when it comes to cleanliness. We have the following certifications:

  • HFE: Hemp Food Establishment Certification
  • CSQ: Cannabis Safety & Quality Certificate
  • cGMP: Current Good Manufacturing Practices Certificate
