CBD products bring on a variety of different experiences and effects. While some prefer CBD smokables and topicals, others reach for the gummies and love the long-lasting effects they provide.

What are CBD Gummies?

CBD gummies are edible products including CBD, also known as ingestibles or edibles. They are the easiest and usually the most discreet way to enjoy CBD. If the gummies are made properly, the dosing is quite consistent. However, since they have to pass through your digestive system, it does take a little longer for you to feel the effects.

That being said, most people report their effects to be longer lasting than tinctures and topicals, potentially due to their slower release and exit from your body’s system. They are a great option for someone who is new to the cannabidiol world and wanting to experience this powerful compound for the first time.

Graph showing the strength of effects for smokables, tinctures, topicals, and edibles. Smokables and tinctures have a steep initial increase with a fairly steep drop off after a few hours. Topicals have a lower strength and shorter time effective. Edibles slowly increase over time and slowly dissipate, making them ideal for long-lasting effects.

CBD is usually used by those who have anxiety and depression. It is helpful in lowering stress levels and overall inflammation, and can be a powerful addition for someone with insomnia or other sleep issues. Unfortunately, there are no officially regulated CBD edibles on the market, so it’s important you do your research when choosing the brands you’re going to buy from.

Our gummies are 100% infused as we NEVER take shortcuts when creating our products. We’re just as proud of our gummies as we are of our topicals and pre-rolled smokables. Our gummies are made in-house from scratch, so we’re overseeing every part of the production process. All of our ingredients are precisely measured so you get the same dose of CBD with every single gummy.

We are also proud to say our gummies taste delicious as the team spent months perfecting the recipe and honestly– they're hard to resist. We have a variety of different options of CBD gummies you can choose from, all with different effects, characteristics, and flavor options.

What are the differences between all the CBD gummy options?

Pure CBD Gummies

These gummies contain only pure CBD and come with 25mg per serving. They are 100% infused and made from scratch, containing only the highest quality ingredients. They come in the berry bliss flavor and many people report it being their favorite gummy. This is a great option for beginners who want to start exploring the world of cannabinoids and test out the experience.

CBD + CBG Combo Gummies

These CBD + CBG gummies pack 25 milligrams (mg) of CBD and 25 mg of CBG in one gummy. CBG, or cannabigerol, is known as the mother of all cannabinoids and it is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that won’t get you high, but it will help reduce your stress levels and provide relief when you feel overwhelmed. We always recommend CBG for those that experience mental stress or have a hard time winding down after a rough day at work.

Our oil is 100% full-spectrum distillate, providing the famous entourage effect. All of our ingredients are clean and vegan, making them suitable for almost everyone. The elderflower flavor makes it not too sweet, but also mouthwateringly tasty!

Delta 8 Gummies

Our popular Delta 8 gummies are once again, made completely from scratch and in-house so we can ensure that the dosing is precise and exact. Each gummy contains 25 mg of Delta 8 and comes in two delicious flavors: mango and berry bliss.

Delta 8 is different from other hemp-based cannabinoids because it does provide a euphoric effect similar to THC. It’s also known as "weed light" or "diet THC" as it is the perfect middle ground between CBD and THC, offering the best of both worlds.

That being said, Delta 8 can still be very intense for those who have not tried D8 or THC before. These gummies might not be the best option for beginners; for beginners we always recommend a tincture since you can better customize the dosing (think low and slow!) with the dropper.

What are CBD Gummies Used For?

Why would someone use CBD gummies instead of tinctures or smokables? Gummies are mostly popular for their delicious flavor which make taking CBD easy and convenient. Not everyone is interested in smoking, and tinctures require some basic measuring.

Additionally, CBD gummies are discreet so you can take them without having to explain yourself and in a lot of professional settings.

CBD gummies are usually used by those with anxiety, depression, high stress levels, or those that want to improve their mood. Furthermore, they are loved for their long-lasting effects and positive influence on insomnia and other sleeping issues, helping you sleep longer and better through the night.

Many people struggle with being in the present moment, whether it’s during their workday, having drinks with friends, or when you're in shavasana. Your constantly running mind is not allowing you to fully breathe; you're too focused on worrying about the next 10 steps or items on your to-do list.

CBD has shown great results in helping you relax and ease worry and anxiety, and it’s when you connect it to something equally as effective as yoga, that you can feel their synergy and reap all the benefits.

Stress & Anxiety

You’ve probably heard the saying “stress is the silent killer” multiple times in your life. Most likely, you’ve connected it to work and finances. What about your day-to-day stressors like missing your alarm and running late, traffic jams, or relationship issues? These are all situations that raise our stress hormones, causing our body to be in constant alert mode.

When this constant stress turns chronic, that’s when we start feeling overwhelmed and under a lot of pressure, with an inability to fully focus on the task at hand. Sometimes, it can lead to very shallow breathing and potentially peak as something more serious and scary like an anxiety attack

Even though getting to the point of an anxiety attack builds up over time, the more we allow for stress to govern our lives, the greater the possibility of experiencing it. Stress and anxiety may be two different things, but they show up in our bodies in almost the same way. They’re both powerfully emotional and mental reactions in the human body that have a strong impact on our health and wellbeing, causing inflammation and lowering the function of our immune system.

Stress may be triggered by an outside situation or event, but anxiety builds from the inside, exacerbated by a stressful or traumatic event. When we don’t know how to deal with these strong experiences, we allow them to wreak havoc on our entire system.

Stress, Anxiety, and CBD

Studies have shown the potential of CBD in helping ease anxiety and reduce stress, and it’s one of the main reasons people use it in today's world. When we should be relaxing and unwinding is when we’re struggling the most, and it shows up in our sleep quality and other relaxing activities such as yoga.

Many people use CBD to help them sleep better and studies show how it has a positive effect on insomnia, REM sleep behavior disorder, and excessive daytime sleepiness disorder. Those who take CBD on the regular really do experience improved sleep quality and duration, with reduced restlessness and insomnia, and a greater ability to fall back asleep once they’ve awoken.

That’s why we’re seeing more and more CBD consumers using this wonderful plant-based compound for other relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation, and even Netflix and chill.

CBD and Yoga

The main components of yoga can be divided into physical and mental. The physical aspect involves the actual movement and asanas, some of which you hold for longer periods of time and some of which you move through, allowing for the flow to generate through your body and move energy in a positive way.

The goal of the physical is to cleanse the body and clear the mind, leaving nothing but a healthy environment for energy to freely flow. This is further stimulated by a hot room as a novelty that was introduced to yoga in early 1970. As a practice, yoga has been around for thousands of years, helping cleanse the body to access the spiritual and mental components.

Even if you’re not in it for the mental clarity, it’s one of the unintentional side effects you are bound to experience. If you really focus on staying in the present moment by allowing yourself to fully breathe, you will find the relaxation so intoxicating, it brings you back on your mat session after session.

CBD can help you relax and ease the anxiety that accompanies you to class. It can help prepare you for your practice and allow you to focus on your breath to guide you through the poses. You'll be able to feel your shoulders finally relax and the space between your eyebrows lose tension.

It can also help reduce pain and inflammation, so if you’re doing yoga with the goal of increasing your flexibility, mobility, and easing painful joints, CBD can be a very efficient ally in helping you combat these uncomfortable sensations.

Lastly, it may help increase your serotonin levels and prolong the moments of peace and bliss once you’re in your shavasana. Shavasana is a pose you’re supposed to completely relax in and let go. Let go of expectations, let go of your to-do list, let go of stress, and even let go of the physically demanding class you just had.

Instead, when we’re stressed out and anxious, it’s a moment when everything comes flooding in, becoming extremely overwhelming and sometimes leading to intense emotions. That’s where CBD can be effective, helping you turn your focus to your breathing, sense what’s happening in your body at any given moment, and allow yourself to feel heavy on your mat like you’ll melt into the ground.

Final Thoughts

Yoga and CBD have the same goal in mind but work through different mediums. Using them together can really allow you to find some peace and relaxation, reduce your stress and anxiety, and calm down the racing mind allowing you to breathe deep into your belly and recharge your batteries for whatever happens next.

What type of CBD product you’ll go for depends on your experience, tolerance, and preference, but if you’ve never tried yoga with CBD before, start with a small sublingual dose and slowly increase over time or as needed.

If you want to learn more about what type of CBD or D8 product might be right for you, check out our blog that compares edibles and tinctures!

With so many CBD products out there, it can leave you wondering about the differences and effects of their various forms. More importantly, which ones should you choose and take yourself?

Different delivery methods are known to produce different effects, but it all comes down to you and your biochemical and hormonal profile to see which works best for you. Some may swear on the tinctures while others may not like how they feel under their tongue; some may do best on edibles while others don’t notice the effects as much.

The best advice is always to try different forms of CBD & D8 and see which delivery method will help ease your pain and relax your mind and body in a safe, effective, and natural way.

CBD & D8 Edibles

Just like tinctures, edibles belong in the category of ingestibles, and they are the most discreet way of taking cannabinoids. They usually come in the popular form of gummies which makes them easy and quick to digest. Unfortunately, many companies on the market buy gummies from a third-party source and simply inject, spray, or roll them in CBD and sugar.

In our case, we make our gummies from scratch and we infuse them with CBD distillate. The process of infusing makes dosing more consistent, provides a longer shelf life, and develops an overall much higher-quality product. You can choose between CBD and Delta 8 gummies, depending on your preference.

Since the dosage is consistent, it can pose an issue for those just starting out as 25 mg might be too high. That’s where choosing a tincture might be a better option. Once you find the best dosage for you, simply popping an edible in your mouth is a much more discreet option that can easily be taken on the go, any place, any time.

Another edible form of CBD is hard candies. We make both CBD and Delta 8 candies, and they come coated in powdered sugar to prevent them from sticking together in transit. With the same 25 mg dosage per candy, they might be too potent for beginners, but an awesome option for advanced users.

CBD & D8 Sublingual Tinctures

Sublingual tinctures are dropped under the tongue and left for a minute to be absorbed by your system. They come with a dropper that allows for controlled and careful dosing and depending on the cannabinoid combination, they can deliver different results.

Our Soothe CBD Tincture helps ease the body, Unwind CBD + CBG Tincture soothes the mind, Rest CBD + CBN Tincture works like a natural sleep aid, and our Energize Delta 8 + CBD Tincture increases your focus and creativity while giving you a natural energy boost. The Delta 8 + CBD combination can also be microdosed, but before you go for it, check out our handy manual and tips!

Comparing Edibles vs. Tinctures

Dosage

Edibles may be more discreet and easier to take, but they come with set dosages per gummy or candy, making it hard to cut them in exact half or quarters. Tinctures come with droppers that make it easier to take your desired dose, depending on your preference, desired effects, or situation.

That’s why sublingual tinctures may be better for beginners and edibles can be for those who have already worked their way up to a higher dosage.

How Fast Do They Work?

Tinctures take effect very quickly, usually within 15 to 30 minutes. The CBD absorbs through the skin under your tongue and gets delivered straight into the bloodstream to provide you with fast-acting results.

On the other hand, CBD edibles take much longer to take effect. Since they’re actually chewed and swallowed instead of being absorbed directly into your bloodstream, the cannabinoids first go through your digestive system and get processed through your liver. Only when processed do they actually enter into your bloodstream. It usually takes 45 to 90 minutes before they take effect.

Final Thoughts

Both of these incredible CBD & Delta 8 forms are here to help you relax, calm your nerves, shift your focus to tasks at hand, and deliver a more restful night of sleep. Depending on your history of use, level of experience, and overall preference, one form may be better than another, but whichever you choose is surely going to help you feel better.
Check out our selection of edibles and tinctures and give them a try - we’re certain you’ll quickly find your favorite (or favorites)!

When purchasing your first CBD product, you’re probably going to be overwhelmed with words such as isolate, distillate, and full-spectrum. This might deter you from clicking on the buy button or have you add a bunch of different items to your cart–fear not, this post will explain everything for you.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis, but it’s derived directly from the hemp plant. CBD isolate by itself contains no psychoactive compounds (no THC), it’s completely legal, and it’s known to provide safe and relaxing effects.

In order to produce CBD isolate, manufacturers use a variety of different processes to extract all the compounds and other substances from the hemp and cannabis plants, including THC. The process leaves behind pure CBD in crystal form.

Three Most Common Methods Of Extraction

  1. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Extraction - the most popular and reliable extraction method that uses multiple pressurized chambers to funnel and pump the CO2. This exposes the plants to very high pressure and low temperatures which results in an extracted oil high in CBD.
  2. Steam Distillation - this extraction method uses a ‘plant material’ distillation tank which is connected to another water-filled tank situated right below it. Water is then boiled and the steam travels upward to the plant material tank, separating the oil vapors containing CBD.
  3. Solvent Extraction - similar to steam distillation, but instead of the water, another solvent is placed in the second tank. This method is more efficient than steam distillation, but it usually involves butane, alcohol, propane, olive oil, or ethanol to extract the CBD, potentially leaving toxins in your CBD.

What is CBD Distillate?

On the other hand, CBD distillate is a highly refined extract that has undergone a distillation process. It usually contains 70-80% of CBD isolate, but includes other cannabinoids too. Since it contains other cannabinoids, it’s called full-spectrum, and it usually contains some THC. All products in Florida have to abide by the law that states THC must not exceed 0.3%, so there shouldn't be enough THC in any CBD products to get you high. Unlike the white, crystalized form of CBD isolate, CBD distillate is a viscous, golden oil.

You can make CBD isolate from CBD distillate by purifying it and undergoing a process called recrystallization, which strips everything off and leaves only pure CBD behind.

So, Which is Better, CBD Isolate or CBD Distillate?

After explaining the differences, you might wonder which one you should actually get. CBD isolate is pure, meaning there are no other cannabinoids; on the other hand, distillate does contain other cannabinoids. The full-spectrum distillate has the best effectiveness due to the different cannabinoids working together synergistically instead of just one by itself; this is called the Entourage Effect. You can learn some quick facts about the Entourage Effect in this carousel post. At South Tip, we believe that distillate is always the way to go. We actually don't sell any ingestible or sublingual products that only contain isolate, simply because we know that they don't work as well. Our tried and true sublingual tincture is our Soothe Tincture. With tinctures, doses can be easily adjusted, and the majority of regular consumers report better sleep, easier unwinding before bedtime, improved mood, easing of sore muscles, and an overall sense of lower stress levels. Our Soothe Tincture is our mildest tincture, containing only CBD distillate.

On the other hand, if you're nervous about trying something that contains small amounts of other cannabinoids (like THC, CBG, etc.) we recommend you try a topical first. Topicals do not enter the blood stream, but can easily relax tired aching muscles. This would be a good first step for someone that might be nervous about ingesting other cannabinoids. We have a great topical option that uses CBD isolate only, so it is great for beginners!

How to Take CBD?

You can choose from smokables, ingestibles, and topicals. Smokables will make you feel the effects of CBD the fastest, the ingestibles are the easiest but the effects take longer to experience, and the topicals are usually used for localized pain relief.

Depending on your goal and need, you can try any of the three forms and see which one works best.

What Makes Our CBD Unique?

The proximity of the Everglades, one of the most nutrient-rich wetlands in the world, creates a really special environment for our hemp to thrive in. In addition, the climate of South Florida allows for multiple harvests instead of just one, and a significant amount of rainfall allows for the crops to be watered naturally, preserving resources. Maybe most importantly, the breeze of the Atlantic ocean brings on a special flavor that no other farmland can replicate.

We also perform indoor experiments with the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, testing out product ideas and delivering the best possible plants with the most effective results. Our young hemp plants grow in the greenhouses, which act as an early buffer while the plants gain strength and size, protected from potential hurricanes and other environmental threats.

And finally, our outdoor field spans over 70 acres which have been used for decades for farming purposes, making the soil incredibly rich in nutrients. The area is now exclusively used for the cultivation of CBD-rich hemp plants.

Final Thoughts

If you’re interested in just trying out CBD, we recommend the CBD Topical or the Soothe CBD Tincture. Both are safe, effective, and a great introduction to CBD. Choose from a variety of products with unique flavor profiles and find your favorite.

From CBD oil and gummies to topicals, this incredible compound has been used for a variety of purposes. When it comes to CBD topicals, they’re mostly used for treating sore muscles and body aches that are known to drag on for days after hardcore workouts, injuries, manual labor, or trauma.

Besides CBD, our topicals have other incredible ingredients that should also be in the spotlight as they further aid in achieving well-rounded pain relief and provide additional benefits for your skin. Here’s what you need to know!

Our CBD Topicals

We currently offer three CBD topical products which all have similar ingredients, but with different potencies. All of our formulas are strong, clean, vegan, and made with the purest CBD isolate & full-spectrum delta 8 distillate. They are:

Restore: 1:1 Delta 8 + CBD Topical for Sore Muscles

This powerful CBD topical is created as a balanced formula of D8 distillate and CBD isolate in equal concentrations, providing an efficient relief for your sore muscles.

Restore: 3:1 Delta 8 + CBD Topical for Sore Muscles

Our 3:1 CBD topical combines the power of a super-concentrated D8 distillate and CBD isolate in a 3:1 ratio. Each jar contains an impressive 2,000 mg of cannabinoids: 1,500 mg delta 8 + 500 mg CBD.

Restore: CBD Topical for Sore Muscles

A CBD formula for stiffness, sprains, and strains that delivers a cooling effect. It contains only CBD isolate and it comes in two dosages, 500 mg and 2,000 mg of CBD per jar.

The Powerful Ingredients

The most important ingredients in our topical CBD products are, obviously, the powerful CBD isolate and D8 distillate:

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate is a form of cannabidiol, the compound derived from the cannabis plant. It does not contain THC, the psychoactive compound of cannabis, so it cannot get you high. In order to produce it, all other compounds have to be extracted from the plant, so that the only thing left is pure CBD in crystal form.

Delta 8 Distillate

Also called Delta 8, “weed light,” or “diet THC,” this powerful cannabinoid is a fairly new discovery. It’s somewhat of an in-between THC and CBD, providing mild psychoactive effects when ingested (not when used on skin). The US Cannabis Council reports on D8 to be less potent than THC, but can still provide notable effects. As always, it depends on the dose and the individual taking it. In our CBD topicals, D8 Distillate is used because of its potential to alleviate pain. However, since it is being applied to the skin and doesn't enter the bloodstream, it does not have any psychoactive effects. You get all the benefits without the "floaty" feeling!

Other Ingredients

In addition, our CBD topicals contain other ingredients, that by themselves, offer a myriad of other health benefits. These include:

How To Use CBD Topicals?

The best way to use CBD topicals is to simply massage them into your skin. Since they are in the form of a cream or balm, they’re easy for your skin to absorb. Our balm is made to stay more solid at higher temperatures (we are based in hot, humid Florida) so you may have to rub it between your fingers to allow it to spread more easily. Other ingredients in our CBD topicals such as coconut oil and shea butter nourish your skin and moisturize it at the same time, leaving it smooth and plump.

If you’re interested in trying them out, we recommend starting with the CBD topical. We recommend the Restore: CBD Topical for Sore Muscles first as it only contains CBD isolate. If you’re ready to take the next step and try the D8, continue with our 1:1 Delta 8 & CBD Balm before trying the much stronger 3:1 Delta 8 & CBD Balm. Happy Shopping!

If you're interested in learning about other cannabinoids check out our post comparing CBD & CBG.

Everybody has bad habits they’d like to break. Smoking, drinking, spending too much time on the phone, or eating junk food.

Getting rid of bad habits — or better yet, setting positive ones — can be a challenge. Thankfully, CBD is here to help. CBD is a naturally-occurring compound that millions of people around the world rely on for benefits like mental clarity, pain management, and better sleep. While it’s derived from hemp, it brings all the positive physical and mental benefits without the typical high you’d get from marijuana.

Isn't it about time you stop letting bad habits hold you back? Here's how you can start building good habits for a happier and healthier life by taking CBD daily.

CBD Can Help You Get a Better Night’s Rest

To start your day off right, everybody needs to get enough rest. And yet, so many of us aren’t getting the sleep we need. One in every three adults in the U.S. isn’t getting the recommended seven to nine hours.

This can have serious consequences on your health, mental wellbeing, and overall quality of life. CBD can help put your sleep schedule back on track to properly rest your mind and body.

In addition to the natural relaxation effect of CBD, studies show that regular doses can support healthy sleep. One study found that a CBD dosage each night increased sleep duration. Another study showed that CBD decreases cortisol levels, which can help encourage healthy sleep patterns.

CBD Can Boost Your Mornings

Let’s face it. Most of us aren’t morning people. And even for those who love to wake up early, the mornings might not come easy for you. Whether it's packed morning routines, traffic-filled commutes, or breakfast on the go, it can be challenging to keep your cool.

Incorporating CBD into your morning routine is a great way to help you stay collected, relaxed, and ready to go in the morning. A regular dose of CBD oil or other CBD-infused products can keep you in a calm headspace, even if your responsibilities are piling up on you from the moment your alarm goes off.

CBD Can Help You Unwind After Work

How do you usually de-stress after a long day? We all have our ways of relaxing after work, but some of them can be unhealthy. Reaching for a wine glass or bottle of beer, for example. Or even just spending hours scrolling on your phone.

These coping mechanisms might give you a rush of dopamine, but they can only offer short-term relief — you might even feel worse later on.

That’s where CBD can come in handy. CBD has a natural relaxing effect, allowing you to de-stress in a healthier way. According to a 2015 review, CBD interacts with receptors in the brain that regulate fear, reducing anxiety-induced feelings and behaviors.

CBD Can Improve Your Workout Routine

If you’re looking to build a daily good habit of exercising, you’re not alone. But it can be hard to work exercise into your daily routine without the right energy and motivation.

Anyone from casual gym-goers to dedicated athletes can use CBD to step up their workout routines. For before a workout, CBD can offer a boost of energy and drive to help master your routine.

For after you’ve exercised, CBD can help you ease into the recovery process. CBD isn’t just a natural pain-killer, but it can also reduce inflammation in the muscles. A bit of CBD post-exercise can help ease soreness and get you ready for your next workout.

Incorporating CBD Into Your Daily Routine

So you’ve decided to start using CBD daily to improve your good habits. How do you start?

It’s easy to incorporate one of our tinctures into your day-to-day routine. Put a few drops directly under your tongue or mix them into your food or drinks. For example, if you’re taking CBD in the morning, you can drop it in your coffee, smoothie, or morning oats.

The type of CBD tincture you take will depend mostly on what you’re taking it for:

Creating a Daily CBD Ritual for Positive Habits

We’re only just learning about the wide range of benefits that CBD has to offer, but studies are already showing a promising link between CBD doses and benefits like pain relief, sleep quality, relaxation, and more. Whether you’re trying to adopt a habit or ditch your old ones, CBD might just be the final push you need to make it a part of your routine.

You want to feel a little extra something but still need to get things done. You’re craving a boost that doesn’t throw off your routine. Or maybe you want to feel a little “high” but not for too long. If any of this sounds like you, microdosing Delta-8 (also known as D8) may be something to look into.

In this blog, we’ll cover the definition of microdosing, the potential benefits, and why some people may want to try microdosing Delta-8.

What is microdosing?

Microdosing is pretty much what it sounds like: consuming a very low dosage of a substance.

In the Journal of Psychopharmacology microdosing is defined as a dose that’s only “1% of the pharmacologically active dose.” However, more commonly it’s thought to be a dose that doesn’t cause an extreme change of consciousness - or at least not as much as the “regular” amount taken. Of course, this amount will vary from person to person, which means the exact microdosing amount is generally on the vaguer side.

Likewise, the substance itself varies as well. Some people microdose LSD or mushrooms; others may microdose caffeine or cannabis products such as CBD or Delta-8.

What are the potential benefits of microdosing?

The biggest potential benefits of microdosing are seen with mood disorders, along with treating anxiety and helping boost productivity. For example, a 2020 study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology showed that participants reported  “enhanced mood, creativity, focus and sociability.” Similarly, a study from February 2019 looked at people who microdose psychedelics regularly and showed that users were “better able to maintain focus after microdosing.”

However, research on microdosing cannabis products is more limited and more information needs to be gathered before conclusive statements can be made about the potential consequences and benefits.

What about microdosing Delta 8?

Delta-8 THC is often nicknamed “weed light” or “diet THC.” Why? It’s shown to be less potent when it comes to getting someone high compared to Delta-9 THC (the primary active ingredient in marijuana that produces feelings of being “high”). So if you enjoy smoking Delta-8, microdosing it could very well give you the same benefits - but in an even “lighter” form.

So how much Delta-8 do you need for microdosing? This will vary from person to person.  For example, if you regularly smoke 2.5 mg then you’ll obviously need to consume less when microdosing. But if you regularly smoke 4 mg, then perhaps 2.5 will give you the desired outcome. Also, it’s generally easier to control the intake of products like tinctures and edibles over vapes and joints, which absorb THC by inhalation.

Either way, if you want to experiment with microdosing Delta 8, we suggest starting slow in a safe environment that you feel comfortable in. Perhaps microdosing D8 before starting personal creative projects, light workouts, or household chores are three ideas to explore.

While we generally think of CBD products for humans - you know, tinctures, smokables, and creams -  it’s also becoming increasingly popular for animals. We’re talking dog treats, digestive chews, and even pet-friendly lip balms.  But is CBD *really* safe for pets? And can it actually help them with anxiety, seizures, and joint pain?
We’ve pulled some studies, stats, and stories to help you make the best decision for you and your pets! ????????(Psst, the research is exciting!)

First, is CBD safe for pets?

As you probably already know, CBD does not have THC. Meaning, CBD doesn’t have psychoactive properties and will not get you (or your pets) “high.” Rather, CBD is known for its calming effects and feelings of general “well being.”

According to a 2017 World Health Organization report, naturally occurring CBD was shown to be safe and well tolerated in humans and animals, and was not associated with any negative public health effects

That said, research is still limited and more evidence needs to be collected before any firm conclusions can be made. And like always, it’s a good idea to check in with your vet before putting anything new in your pet’s system.
Note: the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) claims that pets can overdose on CBD products and experience negative symptoms such as vomiting and lethargy. Like any supplement, medication, or special additive, we recommend putting CBD in a safe place out of reach!

What are the potential health benefits of CBD for Pets?

Anecdotal evidence along with a few studies (both old and new) show there is excellent promise when it comes to the health benefits of CBD for pets. Not only is CBD associated with mitigated anxiety and pain reduction, but studies also show it may even help reduce dog seizures.

Again, more research is needed before conclusions can be confidently drawn. But this information is extremely exciting to see and we look forward to reading more studies (hopefully) in the near future.

For many of us, aches and pains are part of our daily lives. In fact, it's estimated that 50 million Americans are dealing with chronic pain in one way or another. And all of us seek relief. Because of that, we’re going to answer one frequent question regarding this issue–do CBD balms and topicals really work for pain relief?

While discomfort can manifest in various ways - like sore muscles after a workout, tight shoulders from slouching over a computer, or pain you can’t pinpoint an exact cause–it’s undoubtedly an uncomfortable and often isolating experience.  If you’re looking for relief (we feel ya!), you may want to consider CBD topical creams and balms in your routine.

Keep reading for our guide to CBD topical creams, including how they help with pain relief and other potential benefits. Plus, we’re featuring three of our new Restore CBD Topical Balms in the South Tip collection that you can shop online. Each one is designed to help you with pain relief for your sore muscles. ????

What are CBD balms and topicals?

CBD topicals are pretty much exactly what they sound like! CBD balms and topicals are external applications infused with cannabidiol (CBD) that are designed to be applied directly to the skin. These products have gained popularity for their potential therapeutic benefits without the need for ingestion. We love them because they can be applied as needed–like breaks between Zoom calls or after a workout. They’re also easy to carry around with you when you need a little support on the go.

Let’s see an overview of CBD balms and topicals:

CBD Balm

CBD balms typically have a thicker consistency compared to other topicals, and tend to have higher concentrations. They often contain a combination of CBD extract, carrier oils (such as coconut or hemp seed oil), and natural waxes (like beeswax or shea butter) to create a solid, salve-like texture.

Users can apply CBD balm directly to the skin by massaging a small amount into the targeted area. The warmth of the skin helps the balm melt, allowing for easy absorption. Another bonus: balms are less prone to spilling on the go, due to their thicker texture. South Tip’s Restore Balms are actually formulated for the hot South Florida weather with a higher melting point than other products on the market.

CBD topical creams and lotions

CBD creams and lotions have a lighter and more liquid consistency compared to balms. They typically include a mix of CBD extract, water, and lighter oils (such as almond or jojoba oil) to create a smooth and easily spreadable texture. Lotions typically require an emulsion, and if the manufacturer didn’t stabilize it correctly, they can separate over time. Balms usually don’t have this issue.

These topicals are applied by massaging the cream or lotion onto the skin. They are absorbed into the skin, and users can target specific areas where they desire the potential benefits of CBD.

CBD topicals have multiple effects and benefits, but let’s see what we’re here for in the first place - do CBD balms and topicals help with pain?

Do CBD creams really help with pain relief?

When it comes to therapeutic benefits and CBD topical creams, the potential is exciting. The research is still very limited, and no conclusive statements can be made (yet). In the meantime, here are some research highlights:

Inflammation & Arthritis

In a review published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, CBD topicals were called a “safe natural compound” that had pain-relieving effects in various animal models. The study also mentioned potential anti-inflammatory effects and its potential influence on anti-arthritic activity. However, the study also mentioned it’s an understudied substance that needs more research. Similarly, a 2016 study discovered that topical applications of CBD could help manage pain and inflammation associated with arthritis.

There are also some exciting findings in recent studies that highlight the potential of topical application of a specific cannabinoid receptor-1 agonist (CB1R) in speeding up the recovery of the skin's protective barrier. This is especially significant in cases of acutely disrupted skin. The research demonstrates anti-inflammatory effects during both acute and chronic skin irritation, aligning with previous study outcomes. While there's room for further investigation to uncover the involvement of other signaling pathways, these initial results suggest that using a topical CB1R agonist could be a promising therapeutic choice for addressing both acute and chronic inflammatory skin conditions. Conditions such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and psoriasis might benefit from this potential breakthrough in skin health research. For now though, the jury is out. Feel free to test out if this may work for you.

Acne, eczema, and psoriasis

The American Academy of Dermatology suggested topical CBD products can be used as a supplementary measure for acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Additionally, acne, a prevalent skin condition characterized by elevated sebum (oil) production and inflammation of the sebaceous glands, has garnered attention in recent studies that explore the potential benefits of cannabis oils. In a small, but notable study, a cream with 3% Cannabis seed extract demonstrated efficacy in reducing sebum production over a 12-week period, showcasing the promising potential of cannabinoid-based treatments in addressing acne-related concerns.

When it comes to psoriasis, one key player in this interaction is Cannabinoid Receptor 2 (CB2), primarily found on immune cells. Research indicates that cannabinoids, acting as agonists, directly influence these cells. These immune cells, called T-cells, are critical in the development of psoriasis, as they create a positive feedback loop. In experiments, exposure of CD3+ cells to these compounds resulted in a complete inhibition of their action, which may slow the process of development. Given these findings, cannabinoids present a promising avenue for future treatments, holding potential in addressing the complex dynamics of psoriasis pathogenesis.

Feelings of weakness, numbness, and pain

A 2020 study discovered that CBD oil can achieve “significant improvement in pain” in patients with peripheral neuropathy - damage to nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord. These feelings can often result in weakness, numbness, and pain.

Overall, CBD is still in the early stages of research - but it’s encouraging to see these studies that show the vast potential of CBD’s therapeutic benefits.

How much CBD oil or creams should I use for pain? And how long does it take to feel better?

Two of the questions we get a lot are: how much CBD oil or cream should I take for pain relief? And how long does it take to feel the benefits of CBD topicals?

While every person is different, we find it generally takes about 15 to 45 minutes to feel the effects. We also recommend using a pea-sized amount to the area affected - and going up from there as needed. There’s no “one size fits all” answer for how much cream to use - so listen to your body!

As for CBD oil, refer to the bottle you’re using for a recommended dosage. Be sure to take note of ingredients and be careful of sensitive areas. Since CBD topicals are mostly marketed for muscle soreness, formulas generally include ingredients similar to Icy Hot that can be irritating in these areas. The ingredients to look out for are: Chili/Mint oil, menthol, and essential oils. We strongly advise against using CBD topicals internally, near the eye area, or on broken skin.

CBD Topical vs. Oral

Unlike CBD smokables, gummies, or tinctures - CBD cream goes on your skin and not in your mouth. This means the effect of a topical is more immediate and localized since the skin has its own receptors; it doesn’t need to enter the bloodstream to work.  Using CBD orally can either be through the capillaries of the mouth (like a tincture under the tongue) or eating/swallowing a gummy or capsule.  Absorbing under the tongue is faster as it goes directly into the bloodstream without having to be broken down in the liver.  We have an ever-expanding list of tinctures that are all vegan and keto-friendly!
